Alexion has combined its expertise in immunobiology, clinical development, and human antibody engineering to enable the development of a large array of monoclonal antibody and other recombinant therapeutics targeting the treatment of a diverse collection of severe disease states, including hematologic and cardiovascular disorders, autoimmune diseases and cancer.

Alexion has employed its understanding of the immune system to develop its initial products targeting a particularly severe inflammation-causing part of the immune system, known as the complement system. Alexion scientists have also utilized their knowledge of a related compartment of the immune system, known as antibodies, to develop a new class of antibody-based drugs.
